This plant derives its name from its leaves that appear ladder-like. It is an erect, clump-forming perennial that forms a foliage mound. Blooms appear in terminal clusters in the spring in the form of cup-shaped, blue flowers with yellow stamens. This is a great plant for naturalizing. It is tolerant to both deer and heavy shade.

Instructions:
Grows will in average to medium moisture but soil should not be allowed to dry out. Jacobs Ladder prefers rich soil. Grows best in cool summer climates, the plant is intolerant of high heat and humidity. After blooming, the plants can be cut back to basal foliage. This cutting back may encourage plants to rebloom in the late summer. Will self-seed in optimum conditions.
